We Are Moving Platforms.

Hey everybody, it’s ObrenTune (Also known as V) here. As of March 10th 2022, I have retired from developing games on ROBLOX. This isn’t going to be a post about bashing anyone or some dramatic sob story so I’ll give you the reasons why I am retiring from developing games on ROBLOX.

Company Transparency

As we all know, ROBLOX isn’t very open with what they announce or do publicly. At any given moment in time they could release an update that could prove troublesome for developers or catch people off guard and potentially hurt developers who aren’t aware of what has been changed in their guidelines.

Account Protection Instability

One thing that stressed me out about ROBLOX everyday was the fact that one day my account could just vanish and the company could run away with all of the Robux I have not devexed with no guaranteed way to get it back. I could get banned for a decal that I have posted ages ago and could now be a symbol of hate due to the ever-changing culture of the internet, it sounds absurd but it is a possibility. The fact that my account safety isn’t guaranteed but feels like a waiting game to get deleted over anything they deemed to break their terms of service was not a nice feeling to have.

Rash & Immature Decisions

I would like to state that this does not serve any solid evidence or any kind of factual information but rather from what I have gathered. Going back to the Rubensim case ROBLOX had a few months ago, ROBLOX accused Rubensim of unlawful actions against their website and demanding court case action which was ultimately dropped. I felt like ROBLOX had charged into this unknowingly and was unprepared as some of the accusations they held against Rubensim were bizarre and unlikely.

Another case of bad decisions was to allow APM music to get added to the website while letting a robot do all the work. Recently as of 3/9/2022 ROBLOX has unleashed a copyright wave of music & audio due to another lawsuit from multiple music corporations. I did hear that some developers were getting banned for audio they have made themselves without any copyrighted content. I unfortunately do not have any evidence to back this up so please do not take my word, it is just concerning that this may be a possibility and my account could perhaps be in danger.

How ROBLOX Can Improve Themselves

I don’t want to talk about the negative aspects of ROBLOX and leave it at that like most drama related celebrities surrounding the ROBLOX platform. I’d like to provide some insight on how they can improve themselves.

Recently they have been making strides to improve the developer experience for the website and catering to the hard-working content providers and developers alike by improving their devex system and removing the system where you have to spend money to make money. I am happy that ROBLOX is moving forward by helping the people that make their website stand on two legs. Unfortunately for me, the cut that I make under what ROBLOX provides developers after their marketplace fee is not feasible to live off of. I’m looking forward to seeing a change in the devex rates in the future. I hope they are able to improve the content filtering and moderation so innocent developers aren’t devestated by the auto-moderation.

That is all I have to say about the company of ROBLOX and I wish to see them continue improving their platform experience for developers and content creators.

Mental Health

I’ve been developing games on ROBLOX for about 7 years, and I believe I finally deserve a retirement from the website, I am in my twenties and personally it feels weird to be playing a kids game aimed at a much younger audience. I also have experienced almost everything the ROBLOX website and community has to offer to me. The stress caused from the points above contribute greatly to the degradation of my mental health and I believe I need to pull myself away from this website and spread my wings elsewhere. I’m excited to use my skills that I have picked up from ROBLOX to provide a more solid foundation moving forward into another game engine.

What’s Going To Happen To Radispook/Corporeal Ascension?

I’ve made a promise to get Radispook and Corporeal Ascension out so I will continue to develop these projects offsite. I am very excited to tackle these projects as I have more options available to me as a developer! So yeah, no need to worry. Radispook & Corporeal Ascension are going to get developed, it may also take a while. Unfortunately many of the developers are sticking with ROBLOX to finish their own personal projects so I wish them the best of luck!

What To Be Concerned About?

Nothing really, we’re just moving our work elsewhere so our projects may take a little longer than usual :)

Anyway I’m wishing you all a wonderful day and I wish the best of luck to developers on the ROBLOX platform.
